Laminate Flooring FAQs

Why choose laminate flooring?

Laminate flooring is very hygienic and doesn't attract or absorb dirt plus cleaning laminate is very easy. People who suffer from asthma or allergies benefit from laminate flooring as dust and pollen can be easily removed from the surface.

Compared to solid wood flooring, laminates are less likely to dent and scratch. This makes it an ideal choice for busy households or for areas which received a lot of foot traffic.

How much laminate flooring do I need?

When it comes to how to measure for laminate flooring, measuring a square or rectangular room could not be easier. First, use your measuring tape to measure the length and breadth of your room. Then, multiply these numbers by one another to get your square footage. For example, is your room is 5m x 5m, you have a 25m² room.

Once you have your measurements, it's important to add on 10% to account for wastage when cutting and staggering boards when you lay them.

Is laminate flooring easy to install?

Laminate flooring is also easy to install due to the click locking system on each board. Many competent DIY enthusiasts will be able to install laminate by using the installation guides included with each floor, you can check out our handy guide here to give you an idea of the task. Although we do recommend a professional floor fitter to install your flooring if you are unsure in any way.

How do you clean laminate flooring?

First things first; ensure your laminate flooring is well swept and dusted. Laminate flooring is scratch-resistant, but any build-up of hair, dirt, or any other debris can cause scratches to develop if they are allowed to build up or are ground into the floor by shoes and feet.

Simply sweep a dry microfibre mop across the floor every few days to gather up any debris and dirt, making sure to sweep in the direction the floor was laid to scoop up any dust and grime within the grooves. Avoid using a standard floor brush to do this, as the stiff bristles could cause accidental damage and scratches to your floor.

What is the best underlay for laminate flooring?

The type of underlay you need will depend on the type of subfloor your laminate flooring is being laid upon. At Discount Flooring Depot we have a wide range of underlays available. But for most cases, we recommend our Platinum Plus underlay. It is suitable for every room in your house with either wooden or concrete subfloors and offers superior noise reduction and heat retention.
