The surface of all laminate flooring is naturally waterproof because of the way that it is made. This does not make the floor completely water tight when it is laid, because of the gaps around the edges, so it has to be laid properly. A badly fitted flooring will let some water through. With the correct fitting, the right underlay and beading it will be water resistant. If you have a major leak then we can't guarantee 100% that a little water won't get through.
When installing laminate in areas where spillages are common, water resistant laminate flooring is the obvious choice. Easy to wipe down, clean and maintain, water resistant laminate is a hygienic flooring option favoured by many thanks to its many practical properties. It's not just water leaking into the room either. If there are areas where spillages may occur, then it makes sense to install a water resistant option. Whether this is drips from pots and pans or simply getting out of the bath, our Hydro Guard and Aqua Valley options make the perfect choice.

One of the benefits of water resistance is that the surface is naturally tough. This makes it relatively easy to maintain, although we would advise to clean up and spillages straight away, rather than leave the laminate wet. Read our cleaning laminate instruction guide.
