Engineered Wood Flooring

Engineered wood flooring gives the best of both worlds between laminate and solid wood. They are composed of a top wear layer, often referred to as the veneer of a particularly species. Oak is the most popular type of wood used but walnut, cherry and acacia are also available, ranging in size from 1.6mm up to 6mm in depth. The boards’ bottom layer is then comprised of a mixture of ply and sap wood composites to give the board greater stability from the stresses of expansion and contraction due to heat, temperature and moisture changes in their installation environment. This makes engineered boards the ideal choice for underfloor heating installations. Many engineered wooden flooring products also come with a click system that will ultimately save you money in fitting costs, as, like laminate flooring, the boards will simply click together.

The boards’ bottom layer is then comprised of a mixture of ply and sap wood composites, either 3 ply or 5 ply (referred to more commonly as multi-ply). This is to give the board greater stability from the stresses of expansion and contraction due to heat, temperature and moisture changes in their installation environment.

This makes engineered boards the ideal choice for underfloor heating installations as you get the benefit of the appearance of a solid wood floor on top, yet a stable foundation underneath to allow for better heat transfer to the room above. Many engineered wooden flooring products also come with a click system that will ultimately save you money in fitting costs, as, like laminate flooring, the boards will simply click together as they do not utilise a traditional  tongue and groove system.

Browse our great selection of flooring styles above and find the finish and colour that is right for any room in your house. If you’re unsure which you prefer, simply order a free sample and see the quality for yourself to judge which one is just right.
